Refining Our Measures
When we met a few weeks back for our “Vision Retreat” we got a lot accomplished. I
recently spoke to Will Mancini and he was super pleased with our progress!
We wrapped up the retreat with a little exercise to help us think about our
Measures. It was really designed to get us thinking about “When are we successful?”.
If you remember we used a stickman to get us thinking. I want to revisit this area
with a different exercise.
Our Mission is “to link people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.” So
here is my question. How do we know when we are successful? More specifically
“what are the characteristics of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?”.
Take time to really pray and think through these measures of a personal
relationship. I want you to answer this question…”What are the six most important
characteristics of your walk with Jesus Christ?”
Please post your list below. I look forward hearing back from you.

-Keeping the mandate in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”
- A Love for the Word – Psalm 119: 11,105. Psalm 119 is full of references to the importance of the Word.
- A Love for the brethren – John 13:35
-Practicing true religion as found in James 1:26-27
-Doing what the Word says, not just hearing it – James 1:22-25
-Doing the mission of the Church as mandated in Matthew 28, commonly known as the Great Commission
-A progressive, growing prayer life – Matthew 6:5-13
-Good fruit – as described in John 15:1-8
I have not perfected any of these, but I think this expresses my heart the best.
Philippians 3:12-14 – Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

When you make Jesus number one in your life.1.That comes from Passionately commited to Him (a heart for God)2.Biblically measured (everything by the book)3.Morally pure (in a morally compromised age )4.Family -centered (healthy homes are a priority)5.Evangelistically bold(willing and confident in sharing one’s faith)6.Socially responsible(the community around us is our business)That should be our mark. For me to have a personal relationship with Jesus it starts with commucation(prayer)than to be humble to read his word to know what James 4:10 mean.Purity which I struggle with the most what goes in my mind and body Mathew 5:8 Then it being discipline to do these excersice everyday.Romans 12:1-2. Patience to know that God is in control of all things Romans 15:4-5.Compassion to view people as Christ does, that is,to see and treat their sin as Christ treats us when we sin-with lovingkindness and mercy if we share the compassion of Christ, we will be imitators of Christ-and that is the altimate goal of a christian. To use wisdom that only comes from God to seek His vision to be on mission, have values and to have a strategy to link people to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Amen

I like what Ira and VL wrote. And, I completely agree and cannot add to any of it. I especially like what VL wrote about making Christ first in your life. That should be the focus of all Christians. If we are constantly living with Christ in mind and seeking to love him more, than the other items will fall into place. I’ll continue to think and pray about this. Thanks gang
